Dr. Thamer Al-Abbadi, Media Spokesperson for Youth for Human Rights Jordan, expressed his profound sorrow and strong condemnation of the tragic events reported in Karak Governorate, Jordan, emphasizing that any attack on human life and safety constitutes a serious violation of fundamental human rights.
Dr. Al-Abbadi stressed that the right to life, personal security, and human dignity are inherent rights belonging to every individual and must be protected without discrimination. Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights affirms that everyone has the right to life, liberty, and security of person. Article 6 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights likewise recognizes the inherent right to life and requires its protection by law.
He emphasized that the response to this incident must be grounded in the rule of law and respect for human rights. This requires an effective and impartial investigation into the circumstances of the incident, accountability for anyone found responsible through lawful procedures, and respect for the rights of victims and their families to truth, justice, and effective remedies. All proceedings must uphold the presumption of innocence and the guarantees of a fair trial.
Dr. Al-Abbadi further noted that protecting human rights extends beyond condemning acts of violence. It requires rejecting incitement, hatred, and discrimination, safeguarding freedom of religion or belief, and ensuring that all members of society can live in safety and dignity, regardless of their religion, beliefs, or background.
He also underscored that preserving social peace is a shared responsibility. He called on the public and media outlets to refrain from spreading unverified information, avoid inflammatory rhetoric, and reject any attempt to hold an entire community responsible for acts not individually attributed to its members through lawful procedures. Protecting Jordan’s social fabric and strengthening coexistence, mutual respect, and tolerance are essential to maintaining a peaceful and inclusive society.
Concluding his statement, Dr. Al-Abbadi extended his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and expressed solidarity with all those affected by the tragedy. He reaffirmed that justice, accountability, and respect for human dignity are indispensable foundations of a safe society governed by the rule of law.
Dr. Al-Abbadi concluded:
“The right to life is not merely a legal provision; it is a fundamental human and moral obligation to protect every individual and preserve human dignity. Human rights are universal and indivisible. Justice can only be achieved through truth, accountability under the law, and respect for due process—not through revenge, hatred, or discrimination.”
